Light up the Gospel of Hope

The situation in Haiti has become dramatic. We are living in a climate of violence. The population is in the grip of gangs that have been looting, kidnapping and terrorizing for years. Thousands of parents are worried and destabilized by the suffering. Communities in the capital hear the sound of automatic weapons all day long. We often had to get down on the ground to avoid the bullets.

In the midst of these difficulties, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the Province of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Haiti remain a beacon of hope. Without our support, the situation would be even worse in some areas. We are struggling to maintain the hope and faith of young people. The Gospel gives us hope, but it also gives us the strength to overcome our fears, to endure and to thrive in the difficult journey of life. We devote ourselves with loving concern to the education of young people. We stand in solidarity with all those who, with our meager means, struggle in misery, loneliness and isolation.

We have no right to give up; we must always move forward and carry hope with us. Let us take Jesus, the One who walked our human paths, who experienced the most heinous trials in his life, as our compass, recognizing that he is the reason for our hope.
