HOPE is like a CACTUS, which even in the face of drought and adverse environments, can survive and flourish because it has been able to store within itself the true water of life.
Northeastern Brazil, where the Mary Help of Christians (BRE) Province is located, is a land of strong contrasts: arid soil and intense skies; scorching heat and fervent welcome; scarce rains and abundant faith. In this dry and resilient land grows the mandacaru, a cactus that symbolizes life that insists, even when everything seems impossible.
But mandacaru is not just a symbol: it is also survival. In times of extreme drought, it becomes hidden water, fodder for animals and nourishment for the poorest. It protects and nourishes in silence. Though thorny, it cares. Though rough on the outside, it guards life within.
From the Brazilian Northeast to the whole world, we kindle the Gospel of Hope with the silent power of flowers that bloom where nothing should grow.
